3 John

Chapter 1

1 THE elder, to the well beloved Gaius, whom I love in the truth.

2 Our beloved, I pray above all things, that you may prosper and be in good health, even as your soul prospers.

3 For I rejoiced greatly, when the brethren came and testified concerning the truth that is in you, even as you live a true life.

4 I have no greater joy than to hear that my children follow the truth.

5 Our beloved, you do faithfully that which you do to the brethren, especially to those who are strangers;

6 Who have borne witness concerning your love before the whole church: for the good things which you have done for them by supplying their needs, as is pleasing to God,

7 Because they have gone forth for his name's sake, taking nothing from the Gentiles.

8 We, therefore, ought to welcome such, so that we may be fellow helpers to the truth.

9 I wrote to the church, that Di-ot're-phes, who loves to have the preeminence among them, would not receive us.

10 Therefore, if I come, I will mention the things which he did, gossiping against us with malicious words: and not content with this, he not only did not receive the brethren, but also forbade those who would like to receive them, and cast them out of the church.

11 Our beloved, do not follow that which is evil, but that which is good. He who does good is of God: but he who does evil has not seen God.

12 De-me'tri-us has good report of all men, and of the church, and of the truth itself: yea, we also testify for him; and we know that our testimony is true.

13 I had many things to write, but I do not want to write them to you with ink and pen:

14 But I trust I shall shortly see you, and we shall speak face to face.

Глава 1

1 От старейшины. Дорогому Гаю, которого я люблю как пребывающего в истине.

2 Дорогой мой, я молюсь, чтобы все у тебя было благополучно и чтобы ты был здоров так же, как благополучна твоя душа.

3 Меня очень обрадовало, что приходившие братья свидетельствовали о твоей верности, как ты ходишь в истине.

4 Для меня нет большей радости, чем слышать о том, что мои дети ходят в истине.

5 Дорогой мой, ты верен во всем, что бы ты ни делал для братьев, даже если они незнакомы тебе лично.

6 Они засвидетельствовали о твоей любви перед церковью, и будет хорошо, если ты поможешь им продолжить путешествие. Сделай это так, как подобает перед Богом.

7 Они ради имени Иисуса отправились в путь, ничего не взяв от язычников.

8 Мы должны поддерживать таких людей, чтобы содействовать распространению истины.

9 Я написал церкви, но Диотреф, который любит у них главенствовать, не принимает нас.

10 Если я приду, то расскажу, чем он занимается, распространяя о нас злые слухи. Мало этого, он сам отказывается принимать братьев, запрещает это другим и выгоняет из церкви тех, кто хочет это делать.

11 Дорогой мой, не подражай злу, но подражай добру. Кто делает добро, тот от Бога, а кто делает зло, тот Бога не видел.

12 Все хорошо говорят о Димитрии, то же говорит и сама истина. Мы и сами тому свидетели, и ты знаешь, что наше свидетельство верно.

13 Еще о многом я хотел бы тебе сказать, но не буду доверять это чернилам и перу.

14 Я надеюсь скоро тебя увидеть, и тогда мы поговорим лично.

6 Они засвидетельствовали о твоей любви перед церковью, и будет хорошо, если ты поможешь им продолжить путешествие. Сделай это так, как подобает перед Богом.

7 Они ради имени Иисуса отправились в путь, ничего не взяв от язычников.
